How the job runs

  1. Plan the layout

    For patterns, we draw the room to scale so borders land evenly and cuts at doorways look intentional.

  2. Prepare the subfloor

    Flatten to Forbo's tolerance and lay a vapor barrier over any concrete or radiant heat.

  3. Condition the material

    Cartons acclimate in the room. Any drying room film color on new linoleum fades with light.

  4. Click and fit

    Panels and squares locked in sequence, expansion gaps at the perimeter.

  5. Seal and trim

    Perimeter sealed in wet rooms, trim reinstalled, care instructions provided.

Replacing old linoleum and vinyl

Many mid-century homes in Silver Spring, Wheaton, Takoma Park and Falls Church still have original resilient flooring in kitchens. Sheet flooring and 9 x 9 inch tiles from that era can contain asbestos, as can the mastic under them. We test before removal, and where testing shows asbestos, the options are licensed abatement or encapsulating the old floor by installing over it.

Pattern work

Marmoleum's color range is its strength. Checkerboards, border bands around a field, and inset stripes are all straightforward with the click system. Pattern layouts use more material, so we calculate quantities from the drawing, not just square footage.
