How the job runs

  1. Measure and plan seams

    Broadloom comes 12 or 13 feet wide. We plan seams away from traffic and light.

  2. Order to size

    Natural wool carpet is often made to order, so lead time is planned into the schedule.

  3. Remove old carpet and pad

    Tack strip checked and replaced where needed; old material hauled away.

  4. Install natural pad

    Felt or natural rubber, not synthetic rebond.

  5. Seam, stretch and finish

    Power stretched for a tight fit, stairs wrapped or upholstered as chosen.

The carpet

We install Earth Weave natural wool carpet and other wool lines in the green carpet category. Earth Weave is made in Georgia with natural rubber instead of synthetic latex.

Stairs in older homes

Stairs in DC rowhouses and older Chevy Chase and Potomac houses are rarely uniform: tread depths vary and walls are out of plumb. We measure each tread individually and choose between a waterfall or upholstered (Hollywood) wrap based on the nosing profile.

Why the pad matters

Standard rebond pad is made from recycled polyurethane foam scraps bonded together. It is inexpensive, but it undercuts the reason to choose a natural carpet. We quote natural felt or rubber pads with every wool carpet job.

How long does wool carpet installation take?

Most bedrooms take a few hours. A full floor with stairs is typically one day. Lead time for made-to-order carpet is the longer part.
