Built from other industries' leftovers
Aware replaces vinyl with a stack of bio-based and recycled layers. The core is HDF made partly from recycled wood, a comfort layer uses natural and recycled fibers from the textile industry, and the backing is recycled cork from wine stopper production. Kährs states the floor contains no plastic or PVC, and it carries the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
How it compares with vinyl plank
Kährs positions Aware for the same homes and shops that use luxury vinyl, with a usage class 33 rating for commercial traffic. The surface is an ultra-matt protective layer embossed with wood texture, and the fiber comfort layer and cork backing soften footfall noise, so no foam underlay is needed. The HDF core is climate stable enough for sunny rooms and underfloor heating, according to Kährs.
